The Director-General of NITDA, @KashifuInuwa, emphasized the importance of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance productivity in vital sectors of Nigeria’s economy during his Keynote Address on “Artificial Intelligence: Effective Communication for National Security” at the 2023 Security and Spokespersons Awards and Conference in Abuja.
Inuwa highlighted the transformative impact of AI on everyday life, particularly in enhancing human health, safety, and productivity, and asserted that AI represents a novel approach to fostering a connection between humans and machines.
The Department of Defense (DOD) is investing billions of dollars and making organizational changes to integrate AI into their national security systems, and failure to adopt and effectively integrate AI technology could hinder national security. As states develop AI to advance national security and prosperity agendas, it is important to understand the limits of AI and to explore how to mitigate related risks.
The UK government has officially classified AI as a “chronic risk” to its national security, and has committed to hosting the first global summit on AI Safety to evaluate and monitor risks from AI.
